Cambio project managers are experts in a variety of disciplines and take ownership of issues until they are resolved effectively.
While project and program management are distinct disciplines, they are inextricably linked. Cambio’s program management process leverages our team’s extensive experience in leading a diverse set of programs across the federal government. Our consultants understand effective program management depends on effective project management, which itself depends on a cadre of professionals. This includes not only project managers, but staff with technical specialties within the project and program management profession, such as requirements development, cost and schedule estimation, and risk assessment.
Cambio consultants also leverage proprietary project management tools and templates tailored to each client’s unique needs. Our approach provides our clients with clear expectations of project goals, a realistic understanding of risks, and a proven approach to management that contributes to the success of any engagement.
Our teams' expertise is aligned to leading practices in project management such as the PMI Institute’s PMBOK® Guide, which provides managers with the fundamental practices needed to achieve organizational results.
Expertise
-
Project Management Office (PMO)/Portfolio Management Our consultants collaborate with clients to plan, design, and operate program management offices that improve an agency's strategic execution capabilities. We implement policies, templates, and systems that help the PMO run smoothly. Whether the PMO is set up for an entire organization or one project, our expertise ensures an agency achieves its intended goals.
Communication Providing targeted communication strategies is integral to any successful program or project. Our consultants develop clearly defined and executed communication strategies, including leadership alignment, stakeholder engagement, cultural and organizational change, risk mitigation, and reporting. Cambio consultants also have extensive experience supporting projects that require congressional testimony and Government Accountability Office (GAO) or Inspector General (IG) audit support.
Stakeholder Engagement Stakeholder engagement goes beyond profiling the audience and telling them what they want to hear. Change is about people, so bringing people on board or supporting them to lead a transition requires an understanding of the motivations, behavior, and dynamics of individuals and groups within a federal agency environment. Our stakeholder engagement approach is built on empathy and is the primary tool we use to mitigate risks in all projects.
Integration One of the challenges we encounter frequently are programs and projects managed in a silo with little to no coordination across different functional areas of an agency. Our approach continually calls for evaluations of potential integration points and extensive communication of program goals and challenges. We strive to integrate projects into the relevant strategic planning, goal-setting, and performance improvement processes of the agency. With guidance and approval from our client sponsors, we also identify links to the designated program management improvement officer (PMIO) at each agency.
Change Impact Assessment Our change impact assessment identifies what is being changed as a result of a new program or project, who is impacted, and the magnitude of change. The assessment can include a gap analysis between current and future organization structure and roles, business processes, and system functionality. We use this tool to quantify the change effort and gauge the level of change management activities, stakeholder engagement, communications, and training required.
